Did you know that our Cliff Drive Care Center is celebrating its 60th birthday this year?
In that time, we have served the community of Santa Barbara in many ways according to the needs of the community at those times. In 1963 we began caring for young children through our preschool. Over time, we added an after school enrichment and child care program for elementary school students, transitioned to full day care for these students in the summers, and even ran a before school program that included school drop off for many years. We ran a youth drop in center while that was a need in our community. After years of preparation, we expanded our children’s programs to include infants in August 2022. We have had thousands of young children come through our programs, being loved and cared for and learning that our Father in heaven loves them and sent His son for them.
Knowing that senior adults in our community can experience isolation and disconnection, we began our senior lunch program. Hundreds of seniors have been able to enjoy fellowship at bi-monthly luncheons, listening to guest speakers and receiving delicious and nutritious meals. The seniors have even traveled to programs and exhibits together.
For twenty years, we operated a fully licensed counseling center with a sliding fee scale. Our counselors saw hundreds of individuals, couples, and families, providing compassionate and Christ-centered counseling for the griefs and challenges experienced by Santa Barbara residents. Our counselors also served by running support groups, training other workers in town, stepping into crisis situations, and running a peer counseling training for our church leaders. Following its closure in 2016, the counseling center transitioned into a counseling referral network to connect community members with Christian therapists in town. This program ran through 2022.
Thousands of people have been served with the love of Christ, all because of a vision that was born 60 years ago! Through the generosity of members of the Santa Barbara community, we have already raised $26,000, and a generous donor has provided a matching donation of $37,000! We will be holding two fundraisers this year. The first is the return of our Day of the Dip, which will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 4:30-6:30pm in our parking lot. This will be a time of celebration, a salsa competition, and opportunities to donate. Put it on your calendar now to join us that evening.
We will also be holding a Home and Garden Tour on October 7th. We hope to have 6-8 homes and gardens on our tour, but we need your input in locating these homes and gardens! Tour locations might be:
